We spent Friday at Birds Hill Prov Park, cycling around the park on our E bikes, then went to Rick & Barb’s for BBQ supper. Here we are today, Friday, sitting again at Birds Hill P. P., getting ready for another day of cycling around the park. I’m typing this as Esther is looking for a garbage can to deposit our trash.

Check the pic of our new exterior table we picked up when we were at Leisure Travel Vans in Winkler. It’s all aluminum and very easy to set up. Great for when we’re boondocking and won’t have a picnic table.

Apparently there are the occasional black bear in this park, but in all my years I never seen one here or even heard of a bear in this park. Maybe they post the warning about bears to make the park more exciting.

Lots of people, campers here this weekend for the annual “Folk Fest’, and we could hear the music at our campsite. Check this out;

After spending the night camped in a Wal-Mart parking lot to rest our eyes, etc, we ate B/fast at a McD’s in town, nothing to eat at Walmart as they don’t have a McD’s any more I think Walmart is chasing McD’,s away from their stores. The trip to Med Hat was uneventful and we went into Costco to pick up wine which is much cheaper than in BC.

Driving between Swift Current and Moose Jaw, we ran into a severe storm with heavy rain, lots of lightning and strong winds. A couple times I thought we were hit with a lightning strike by the very loud bang as it went over us. Very tough driving as the winds were very strong. I would have to say that was the worst storm I have ever driven through, and I spent 45 years living in Wpg. … So we pulled into another Walmart for the night, in MooseJaw, to change our pants and catch some needed rest. Incidentally, Moose Jaw is where my mom was born….lots of RVs are here for the night, looks like a Walmart campground. This Wal-Mart has a McD’s.

Today we travelled 637 kms ,( almost same as yesterday ). Long day tomorrow as well. Oh, today the AC stopped working for about 2 hours, then all of a sudden, it started again. I can’t figure it out.

That’s all for today, and now Esther is studying a hwy map.

Our story today is coming to you from Birdshill Prov Park. To you nerds, that is approx 10 miles east of Wpg on Hwy 59. The hwy that takes you to Grand Beach, the most beautiful sandy beach in Canada, possibly in North America. You have to be from Wpg to appreciate the beach. Growing up here and spending time at Grand Beach as a teenager was very special. I wish I could show you pics of Grand Beach , and especially about the train rides we took from Wpg to the beach. Later when I was old enough to drive, we would take the car to the beach. I was very lucky to experience all that I did at th

e beach. Now all I have is great memories.

We spent Mon night at West Hawk Lake campground, then this morning, we took off for BirdsHill Prov Park. So if anyone would like to visit us, you’ll certainly be welcome. We’re in Meadowlark site # 32. Today, it’s been raining quite a bit so we won’t be getting our bikes out.

Prior to West Hawk Lake, near Falcon Lake, we were still in Ontario travelling along Ont hwy # 17. That’s what the Ontario people call the No 1 hwy. …What do they know about hwys ?

Not being a real honest to goodness computer guy, I can’t do much with pictures, but I might send you one just to keep you interested. So hang on… I .might do more later.

Cheers and have a beer on me,

John and Esther
